Manu Bhaker (born 18 February 2002) is an Indian sport shooter who has achieved significant success in her career. She won two bronze medals at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, making history as the first female Indian shooter to win an Olympic medal. Bhaker earned a bronze in the women’s 10 meter air pistol event and another in the mixed 10 meter air pistol team event with her partner Sarabjot Singh, becoming the first Indian woman to win two medals in a single Olympics.
Manu Bhaker began training in 2016 with coach Anil Jakhar. Her first major success came in 2017 when she won a silver medal at the Asian Junior Championships. At the 2018 International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico, she won gold in the Women’s 10-meter air pistol. She also won gold in the 10-meter Air Pistol mixed team event with Om Prakash Mitharval.
Bhaker continued to excel, setting records at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the Youth Olympics, where she became the first Indian shooter and female athlete to win gold. In 2019, she won multiple gold medals in the ISSF World Cup and qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Bhaker faced challenges, including a pistol malfunction, and did not advance past the finals in her events. However, she bounced back in 2024, securing two bronze medals in Paris.
Bhaker was born in Goria village, Haryana. Her father, Ram Kishan Bhaker, is a chief engineer, and her mother, Sumedha Bhaker, is an educationist. She completed her schooling at Universal Higher Senior Secondary School and pursued a degree in Political Science from Lady Shri Ram College, New Delhi. Currently, she is studying for a master’s degree in Public Administration at DAV College, Chandigarh
